Twist and Shout

well, it seems I'm a little overdue for a post, so. . .I'll give you a little report on whatever.
so I was reading this book Oliver Twist. on a scale from 1 to awesome I give it a "meh." I would say don't skip it, but its not one of my personal favorites. in other news, I went to Camp Spearhead met this awesome guy names Christopher Lloyd Luce. He was the man, he had this 3 step plan for life
1. keep busy
2. keep in control
3. stay out of trouble
and he knew the words to every song under the sun. And he looked similar to a leprechaun.
so yeah it was cool, probably one of the coolest events of the school year.
I'll follow this up with my report on Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis who is my favorite author. which some of you may already know. . .
so ok bah

Book 2

due to an unforeseen, and rather malicious in my opinion, book report (definition: irony. . .) My post on Screwtape Letters will be postponed, you can thank Oliver Twist. but I'll turn this into the report when I get a chance to finish both books

Mere Christianity

by popular demand (VC 1 everyone else 0) I'm posting "book reports" (how I despise that term) on both the books that I'm reading.

Book #1 Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis

This book's contents were actually given by Lewis on a radio station in three separate parts Broadcast Talks (1942) Christian Behavior (1943) and Beyond Personality(1944) plus a few additions by the man himself. One of the reasons I like C.S. Lewis is because of his allegories and word pictures. He used a cube to represent the Trinity which taking in the fact that he is using a finite object to describe the inexplicable its a pretty good description (and I like it better than the egg thing). some of my favorite chapters were the chapters on the cardinal (or pivotal) virtues, forgiveness, faith, and charity. I also liked his logical thought process (heh) walking through loving your neighbor as yourself. He also gave a good (and rather funny) reason why many people aren't too fond of Christianity. and why people might resist the best thing that could happen to them, because they think it is the worst thing that could happen to them.
overall this book rates a 'yes' on the Awesome scale

I'm reading 2 books, its more like just one, but I read the other occasionally too. I'm not even finished with either of them and I'm gonna recommend them to you. C.S. Lewis wrote both of them, Mere Christianity and Screwtape Letters. He is one of my favorite authors both secular and non secular. I'm not even half way through either of them, but I'm recommending them too you because they're really good. and I also have to give a shout out to the man who gave me both books as a present VC.

2007

kickin off the new year in one of the greatest states in the USA. I spent my Christmas in Houston Texas in other words. we visited both sides of my fam, because they live about 30 minutes apart (pretty handy huh?) but that also meant that if we hadn't sprinted out of each respective house when we did, we would have died from food overdose (if thats possible) we also fired off a veritable barrage of fireworks at each house and I had a "black cat" explode a couple inches from my hand which makes everything more interesting. we brought in the new year with a game of spoons and we watched the ball drop in NY. overall it was pretty sweet

Hospitality

it was brought to my attention by a certain person, who will remain anonymous throughout this unless this person chooses to reveal their identity, that being friendly has a big impact with people you know, and a huge impact with people you don't. I remember once I passed a guy I know and he said "hi" and I was deep in thought at that time and looked up with what he described as "this huge scowl" and he was kinda taken back by it, and I didn't even mean to do that. so just imagine what unhappiness you can cause if you put your mind to it! don't. unhappiness is bad, and therefore inversely, happiness is good (stating the obvious to make a point) and so lets say your cat just died, which for me would be a cause for celebration, but for others it would cause personal anguish. if you go around moping about it, then you will cause others to get in a bad mood also, which as previously stated is not good. I don't know how many of you have heard or sung the song Count Your Many Blessings but just think about it, your cat just died, but, you're still breathing, you still have you're family, you still have a house etc. the good will usually outweigh the bad, and if you're happy than you can pass it on to others. bad moods are contagious but good moods are too, just not as much. so as I sometimes say, the more the merrier. and the more people who are happy, than inversely, the less people who are sad (again stating the obvious to make a point) so be a friend and at the risk of sounding cliche, be happy

Kickin' It Off

yes, I think you saw this coming. I keep trying to tell you why camping is so great, and every time you shrug it off. well here I go again. just yesterday (the 15th) a bunch of guys including our local chemistry teacher, band teacher, and Aaud technician, departed at roughly 8:00 AM to go camping. we drive up, and find out that the road we we going to take to our pre-arranged parking lot, was closed for "ice and snow." so trying not to let that get us down we walk about 1 or 2 miles to the beginning of the trail and start hiking in, only to find that a small, but vital section of the trail was covered in ice (if you slipped you would end up in a river) so some people would think "ok time to leave" but we thought "lets see who can slide down and not go into the river." there is a small section of this trip, if you want the whole story you'll have to ask me because some parts can only be told face to face. and others are glad I stopped, but I'll leave out the names. . . anyway camping is cool and you should try it some time
